The Hiram M. Chittenden Locks, also known as the Ballard Locks, were our last tourist stop in Seattle. This was a way to kill time before dinner, which we ended up eating at a restaurant called Purple right next to the parking garage we found downtown. It was an auspicious find, as it turned out [...]

We grabbed a quick lunch in Ashford at the Copper Creek Inn, then headed back to Tacoma to visit the Museum of Glass. This was a short but worthwhile visit. Unfortunately, we could only take pictures outside.

On our final day in Seattle, we woke up early and started driving back to Mount Rainier – hoping for better weather this time. We grabbed a quick breakfast at Starbuck’s and drove straight up to Paradise, where (no surprise) we found the mountain completely socked in again. As a last-ditch effort, we drove east [...]

After searching in vain the day before, we finally located the sculpture park south of the Seattle Center. We walked around, snapped some photos, then decided that we would walk back to our hotel room rather than going back to the monorail station – this resulted in a very long walk. We did get to [...]

In order to make our experience at the Space Needle a little more enjoyable, we booked lunch at the revolving restaurant, Sky City, so that we didn’t have to wait in line. It is definitely the way to visit the Space Needle. When we were finished with lunch, we just walked up one flight of [...]

We started this day with awesome pancakes (with raspberry sauce and vanilla mascarpone) at Lola a few blocks from our hotel. Then we caught the monorail to the Seattle Center and began our day with a trip through the Science Fiction Museum, followed by lunch (see next post), followed by the Experience Music Project.

Our original plan was to visit Pike Place Market on a Saturday – judging by the number of people there on a Thursday, it’s a good thing that we didn’t. It was packed! We had a quick lunch at Lowell’s (originally a spot we picked for breakfast, but we had to be flexible with our [...]

Our first stop in Seattle, after finally finding a place to park, was the Seattle Aquarium. Despite being filled (to capacity) with children, this was a neat stop and one that we enjoyed photographing.
Arrival in Seattle, WA

Though our original plan was to stay at Mount Rainier, another day of lousy weather convinced us to cut our losses and head for Seattle. We were really looking forward to our lodging for this leg of the trip – by prepaying, we got a decent (still expensive) rate at the Grand Hyatt in downtown [...]
Reflection Lakes and Narada Falls, Mount Rainier National Park, WA

We stopped at Reflection Lakes because it was on the list of sites Jen had picked, but with low expectations – the whole point of the lakes is that you can see the mountain reflected in them. Obviously, that was not the case on this day. One thing was clear at the park – Narada [...]
